Canterbury Downtown

Welcome Week 2017

The summer season has flown by around here as many students are off on adventures, summer jobs, visits home, etc.  And new students finally are getting their feet on the ground in New York City to start a new school, a new semester, a new chapter in their lives.  I am praying for and with you all.

2017-2018 with Canterbury Downtown promises to be a great year, with invitations to grow in faith, friendship, and service.  See below for a few save the dates!

On Sunday, August 27, 6 pm, Holy Eucharist at Grace Church, followed by dinner out with Chaplain Mary Cat!

Wednesday, August 30, 3-5 pm and Friday, September 8, 1-2 pm, SnoCones & Service Projects – hang with Lutheran Pastor Becca and Chaplain Mary Cat as we welcome students with snow cones near Washington Square Park!  Find us in front of Judson Memorial Church where we’ll also be creating toiletry kits for the NYC Rescue Mission!

Wednesday, August 30, 7 pm, Meet the Chaplains at NYU – All Campus Worship and Fellowship Night is a gathering with chaplains from across denominations that serve NYU.  Welcome new students, sing and pray together and connect with the broader Christian community at NYU.

On Sunday, September 3, after the 6 pm service at Grace (with Chaplain Mary Cat preaching) we will have a cookout with burgers, dogs and tasty summer salads!  We’ll welcome new students and get the school year off right.  Bring a friend to Canterbury Downtown. RSVP on Facebook here.

On Wednesday, September 6, 3 pm, join Chaplain Mary Cat and other LGBTQ affiliated chaplains for a spirituality meet-up at the LGBTQ Center at NYU (60 Washington Square, 602).

Other great invitations on the horizon – a day out of the city at Bluestone Farm, first Wednesday lunch conversations with our Lutheran companions at, service days with Habitat for Humanity and multifaith gatherings with our Muslim friends and neighbors.

Looking forward to seeing you back in the city, and catching up over a cup of coffee/tea/ice cream!

See you in church!
